Corn Miller goes in for 10 years for defilement

Accra, Jan. 20, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced a corn miller to 10 years' imprisonment with hard labour, for defiling a 10-year-old pupil.
Martin Kofi Ashiomey alias Shake, 43, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Emmanuel T. Boison told the court presided over by Mr Kwadwo Owusu that the victim lived with her grandmother at Atomic in Accra.
He said sometime in October 2003, the victim's grandmother sent her to grind corn at the mill, which the accused operated. The Prosecutor said when the victim went to the corn mill, the accused asked her to sweep the shop, but she refused.
He said Ashiomey grabbed the victim into his chamber and forcibly defiled her.
Inspector Boison stated that after the act, the accused warned the victim not to disclose her ordeal to anyone else she would die. He said the victim's grandmother later detected that the victim walked with some difficulty and when questioned, she narrated her ordeal.
Inspector Boison said the case was reported to the Police and a medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital and it certified that she had been defiled.
