Cop weeps over fire

A 52-year-old Policeman attached to the Nkawie Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region is grieving barely a week after his private apartment at Anomangye, a suburb of Kumasi, was consumed by fire.

Detective Inspector A.O. Owusu stormed the Ashanti Regional branch of DAILY GUIDE in Kumasi last Wednesday and virtually broke down in tears, lamenting that the tragic incident had rendered his family homeless.

The police officer’s chamber and hall apartment and several other rooms occupied by other families were gutted by the ferocious fire at about 7:00pm when he had closed from work. The cause of the fire was unknown.

He was said to have nearly collapsed when his wife called to inform him about the extent of destruction caused to their apartment and belongings.

The fire, which was said to have started in a room occupied by a young man, spread quickly and before personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to a distress call made to them, the entire house had been destroyed.

They lost their clothing, refrigerator, furniture, electrical appliances, an unspecified amount of money and other personal effects.

The traumatised detective appealed to the police administration, private organizations and individuals to support him to address his challenge.
