Contractor hammered to death

Accra, May 31, GNA - Two unknown assailants on Monday hammered a 32 year-old contractor to death at his residence at Ashongman in Accra. Stanilous Noah Tetteh, who was killed at about 0300 hours on Monday, had deep cuts on the forehead, occiput and jaw.

The wife of the deceased, whose name is being withheld, was not spared by the assailants and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jordan Quaye, Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told Journalists in Accra. ASP Quaye said the Police received a call that that some persons were robbing a house at Ashongman and a Patrol Team was detailed to go to the scene.

By the time the Police got to the scene, the two assailants had fled in a red Astra car. At the house, the Police found the deceased lying prostrate in a pool of blood on the floor. The hammer, which was used to commit the crime, had been dismantled, ASP Quaye said: "The doors in the house had not been broken into," the PRO added.

ASP Quaye said the Police saw the wife of the deceased, who had been battered on her breast and her back, wailing. He said the woman told the Police that she had travelled to Somanya and returned on Sunday. When she knocked at their bedroom door, her husband failed to open the door.

The PRO said the woman, therefore, passed the night in one of the rooms where her brother was sleeping.

She said she heard a noise in her husband's room and soon after, the two assailants jumped on her and assaulted her and then marched her to her husband's car parked at the garage. The assailants ransacked the car, which contained some documents. They made away with a DVD player, a video deck, documents and valuables.

ASP Quaye said investigations had commenced and pleaded with the public to assist the Police with information that would lead to arrest of the assailants.
