Congolese delegation calls on Minister of Health

Accra, April 11, GNA - A four-man Congolese delegation on a health exchange programme on Tuesday called on the Minister of Health Professor Kwaku Boafo-Danso.

The delegation led by Mr Mbuyu Muteba Yambele, the Congolese Chief Pharmacist and adviser to the Minister of Health, is in the country at the invitation of Phyto-Riker Pharmaceuticals Limited of Ghana, which plans to export its products to Congo.

The visit is a follow-up to one made by officials of the company last month after which a protocol agreement was signed. The aim is to finalise the proposals to the exchange programme, which will be officially endorsed by the two parties in New York next month.

Briefing the Minister on the visit, Mr Yambele expressed regret that the health system in Congo has broken down due to the long civil strife and said he was happy that Ghana, through Phyto-Riker, has agreed to assist in the provision of drugs.

He said the agreement would help in the establishment of a Central Drug System in Congo, which will not only be beneficial to his people but others from her neighbours.

The Minister wished the delegates well and said there is need to work more to bring the two countries together because they have a lot in common as developing countries.

"Let's use this health exchange programme to cement the cordial relations between the two countries upon which to build our diplomatic missions." Those present at the ceremony were the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Moses Adibo, Vice-President of Phyto-Riker, Diane Robertson Winn and Mr Emmanuel Fofie, Chief Pharmacist at the Ministry of Health.
