Confirmed cases of meningitis kills one, seven on admission

One student had been confirmed dead with several others on admission at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital after being diagnosed of meningitis.

The deceased name withheld is a 19-year old died in the early hours of Wednesday shortly on admission.

One other student from the another Senior High school is said to be in a critical condition with a confirmed case of the viral disease.

The Medical Director at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Clement Oppong who disclosed this to Radio Ghana, said three out of seven other students that had so far reported at the facility showing signs of the disease, are being kept under strict surveillance whilst investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of their predicament.

Dr. Oppong had allayed the fears of the public as remedial steps are being taken by the heath directorate to contain the disease should it reach an epidemic threshold.
