Concerned Wood Workers Association Denies Rumours

Kumasi, Nov. 28, GNA - The Executive of the Concerned Wood Workers Association of Anloga in Kumasi, has said it was not true that its members had resolved not to quit their present site and relocate at the Sokoban Wood Village Site. He said "What we are asking for is that the resettlement committee which had been mandated to see to our smooth evacuation to the village should put in place the right structures before we quit our present site".

Mr. Francis Komi Dzokoto, Spokesperson for the Association, made the denial at a press conference in Kumasi on Thursday. He lamented that issues bothering on the payment of compensation to carpenters affected by the relocation, transportation to cart carpenters' equipment and work tools to the village and the fact that there was no electricity at the new site, were yet to be resolved in spite of persistent appeals by the concerned workers.

He said the water supply to the site was a problem and land allocated was too small to accommodate the about 4,000 carpenters. and urged the resettlement committee to find lasting solutions to the problems.

Togbuiga Mawufeame Fugah, a member of the Management Committee of the Resettlement Committee, asked members of the association to exercise restraint whilst their concerns were being addressed. He said he had forwarded their concerns to the appropriate quarters and that they should apply dialogue in solving problems instead of resorting to acts that could disrupt the relocation exercise. 28 Nov. 08
