Computer center commissioned in Konongo

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, at the week-end commissioned a ?300-million computer training centre at Konongo in the Asante Akim North District.

The centre, known as Cummings (Gh) Inc Computer Training Centre, was established by Mr Osei Kwabena, a Ghanaian and citizen of Konongo resident in Colorado, USA.

According to Mr Osei Kwabena, he was in the USA when he realised that everybody, including children, are learning how to use the computer. He, therefore, took it upon himself to establish the centre in the area to offer the people the opportunity to study computer and be abreast of modern trends in information technology.

Mr Osei Kwabena was of the hope that the centre will transform the fortunes of the people in the area.

Mr Boafo commended Mr Osei Kwabena for his initiative and foresight, which he described as unprecedented in the area.

He, therefore, called on the citizens from the area resident abroad to emulate such a laudable example and contribute meaningfully to supplement government?s efforts at rebuilding the economy.

He said the government is determined to make sure that children of school going-age become computer literate so as to meet the challenges ahead.

Mr Boafo noted that education is the only reliable and sustainable legacy parents could bequeath to their children and, therefore, called on them to send their children to school to enable them to obtain quality education.

He also called on them to place much premium on their girl-child education. Mr Boafo said the government views education as the sole prerequisite of life and that explains why it has placed premium on the sector and spends huge sums of money towards its development.

Mr George Kwame Frempong, District Chief Executive for the area, also commended the proprietor for his kind gesture which he said will benefit the entire district.

He gave the assurance of the district assembly?s eagerness to work in close co-operation with the centre to ensure the growth of information technology.

He, however, called on the residents in the area to take advantage of the facility to become computer literate and be abreast of global communications trends.

Present at the ceremony was Mr Samuel Kwasi Ameyaw, a Ghanaian based in Denver, USA.
