Completion of projects qualifies KMA for UDG supplementary grant - KMA Mayor

The timely completion of several developmental projects in the Ashanti Regional capital by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) qualified them for the Universal Development Goal (UDG) supplementary fund last year.

“Our Assembly qualified for the grant of the UDG supplementary funds worth GH¢1,983,750.00 (US$445,787), Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) Osei Assibey Antwi revealed.

According to the MCE, the criteria for the qualification included the timely completion of projects, quality of work executed and utilization of the projects by beneficiaries.

At a press soiree with selected journalists in the capital, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi detailed the supplementary UDG funds were invested in the furnishing of 1No. Completed Community Library with 45No. Shelves, 34No. Library Tables, 200No. Library Chairs, 10No. ICT Tables & Chairs, 6No. Teachers Chairs & Tables, 4No. 3.0 Air conditioners, 31No. Computers & accessories, 2No. Projectors and 2no projector screens.

The rest are the completion of 1No. 20 Bed Capacity Ward at Maternal & Child Health Hospital with Theater Partitioning, Piping and stainless steel Scrub Sinks, 4no.taps, creation of Pharmacy at main corridor, interior partitioning, with glass blocks, construction of external ramps, fence wall and landscaping.

Procurement of 2,300 No. dual desks, 1,200 sets of student tables & chairs, 130No. Sets of teacher tables and chairs, 100No. Cupboards for 15No. Newly rehabilitated and 7No. Newly constructed basic schools & Kumasi sec/tech school

Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi however stated that t he Chirapatre lorry terminal project suffered some setbacks which affected the expected completion date.

“This project entails site preparation and ground stabilization to pave way for the construction of the Chirapatre Terminal which is a key component under the Kumasi Roads and Drainage Extension project (Lake Road project)”, the MCE explained.

“The Sofoline lorry terminal; this project equally suffered due to litigation and initial non-co-operation from the drivers. …It has now been completed and is in use”

“Additional works i.e. provision of sheds/other facilities have been earmarked to be executed with the UDG supplementary funds”, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi stated.
