Several commuters have been stranded on the Accra-Tema Motorway following disruptions caused by a downpour on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

A video shared on the X page of Channel One TV on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, captured the frustrated commuters standing by the roadside hoping to get vehicles to work and other destinations.

The downpour caused significant damage to portions of the road, triggering major delays and compelling some commuters to return home after long hours of waiting.

On April 28, 2026, the Ghana Meteorological Agency, GMET issued a warning of above-average rainfall across the country, particularly in coastal areas, urging residents to take necessary precautions.

The Deputy Director of Forecasting, Joseph Porturphy, also advised the public to prepare for more rain, especially those living along the eastern coast.

He explained that the main rainy season would run until early July.

"The main rainy season will last until the first week of July, continuing through August and September, with a brief dry spell in between,” he continued.

“The rains will return at the end of September and last through October and November, before the Harmattan season sets in by December", he noted.

Joseph Porturphy urged the public to take preventive measures to avert flooding.

“Now is the time to ensure that gutters are cleared, especially those that are blocked. If there are any structures on railway lines, they need to be removed. We must also stop throwing rubbish in gutters, as they are already narrowed", he added.
