Residents of Dansoman in the Greater Accra Region have joined forces with health workers and local organizations to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage early detection through free public screenings.
A nurse from Osudoku Hospital, Madam Beatrice, urged community members to make regular checkups a priority, stressing that early detection saves lives.
“Breast cancer is not contagious and it can be cured when it is found early,” she said.
“So, if you notice anything wrong with your breast, don’t be afraid or wait go for screening and get treatment.”
The campaign, organized by Implementers on behalf of the Prebbie Group a consortium that includes TECHAiDE formed part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
It brought health education to the streets of Dansoman, aiming to support both patients and survivors.
Communications and Engagement Manager of Implementers, Blessing Okam, said the outreach was intended to educate men and women alike about breast cancer and emphasize the importance of regular checks.
“We came to Dansoman to show love to people receiving treatment for breast cancer and to remember those we have lost,” she said.
“No one should face this alone. Apart from creating awareness, we also want to support survivors and patients because cancer can happen to anyone.”
The day’s activities included a community walk, free screenings and the distribution of educational materials and souvenirs.
Mary Addison, one of the participants, expressed appreciation for the initiative and encouraged women to take early detection seriously.
“I was confident I was fine, but I still came for the screening because early detection is important,” she said.
The event brought together residents, corporate representatives and health professionals, all united by a common goal to raise awareness and extend support to those affected by breast cancer.
The Prebbie Group is made of companies which include, (Techaide, IMPLEMENTERS, Shellbie Homes, Ecorefix and Prebbie Properties) undertook this campaign as part of their CSR activities.
