Residents of Nyame Bekyere, a farming community near Akoase in the Eastern Region’s Birim North District, have been left reeling following the murder of a 22-year-old commercial motorcyclist.

The victim, Eric Nyarko, locally known as “Junior”, was reportedly killed while operating his motorcycle taxi business.

In the wake of the tragedy, grieving relatives and fellow riders have urged the police to intensify investigations and strengthen security in the area.

The victim’s sister, Grace Darkoa, recounted that her brother failed to return home after leaving for work.

Following several unsuccessful attempts to locate him, family members called his mobile phone, which was answered by an unidentified individual who subsequently switched the phone off.

The family later received confirmation that the young rider had been killed.

Miss Darkoa has appealed to the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, local motorcyclists and relatives say the incident has sparked widespread fear among riders operating in the area.

They allege that the killing is not an isolated case, claiming that similar targeted attacks have occurred previously in Nyame Bekyere.

They are therefore calling on security agencies and local authorities to treat the situation as an urgent security concern in order to protect residents and transport operators.

The victim’s body has been conveyed to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital for preservation and a post-mortem examination, while police launch a manhunt for the unidentified assailants.
