Commonwealth Secretary-General Receives Chief Justice Of Ghana

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Right Hon. Patricia Scotland received the Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Georgina Wood at the Commonwealth Secretariat, Marlborough House, London, on Wednesday 2 June 2016.
In attendance at the meeting were the High Commissioner of Ghana to the United Kingdom, H.E. Victor Smith as well as officials from Ghana and the Commonwealth.

The Chief Justice used the opportunity to congratulate the Secretary-General on the assumption of Office as the first woman to occupy the positon.
The two sides highlighted the Commonwealth advantage in working together to achieve the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's).
The Commonwealth as part of the vision of the Secretary-General, will establish a Commonwealth Office of Civil and Criminal reforms to deepen collaboration and share best practices among investigators, prosecutors and judicial officers.

Other areas of possible Commonwealth cooperation include advancing the rule of law, judicial reforms and assurance mark against anti-corruption, strengthening networks and legislative drafting.
The Chief Justice commended the Commonwealth on the initiatives and pledged to work closely with the organisation to achieve the desired objectives of social and economic development.

The Chief Justice was optimistic that the judiciary in Ghana could benefit from the initiatives outlined by the Secretariat.
