Committee on Infectious Disease Control set up in Tarkwa

A 13- member committee has been set up in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality, to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the area.

The committee, will also among other functions, solicit for funds for public education and would operate directly under the auspices of the Municipal Health Committee.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs. Christian Kobinah said because a lot of foreigners work in Tarkwa, the Municipal Assembly and the municipal health directorate and other collaborators decided to come out with a permanent committee to ensure the early detection and management of diseases, such as the Ebola.

Mrs. Kobinah said that the municipality was looking up to the committee to lead and coordinate the fight against the outbreak of infectious diseases.

The MCE was hopeful that the committee would receive the necessary assistance and co-operation from the various institutions within the municipality.

She entreated members of the committee to collaborate with all stakeholders in the municipality, especially those in the health sector, to help them achieve their objectives.

The committee is chaired by Dr. Seth Nii Addy, executive director of Rabboni Christian Hospital with Dr. Ishmael Sackey, health director of Tarkwa Goldfields, Dr. Hayford Effah, medical director AngloGold Ashanti, Miss. Gloria Tandoh, a reporter at Dynamite fm, Mr. John Otoo, Health and safety manager of Ghana Manganese Company and other officials as members.
