Commentary- Would NDC Be Wrong Tying

Traitorous Rawlings To The Stakes & Firing Him?

We reel back to the year 1979, and remember 15th May, when a certain skeletal Flight Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings burst onto Ghana’s political scene in his attempt to stage a coup.
Rawlings did not succeed in his 15th May sortie, but created the atmosphere for the June 4th 1979 Uprising to be launched.
The June 4th Uprising succeeded and Rawlings found himself at the helm of affairs of this dear nation of ours.
In the heat of the uprising, many lives were lost because Rawlings embarked on “house cleaning” exercise.
Without blinking an eyelid, two former Heads of State, Generals Ignatius Kutu Acheampong and afred K. Akuffo, alongside, Rear Admiral Amedume, General Utuka, General Kotei, Colonel Roger Felli, were tied to the stakes at the Teshie firing range, and shot with live bullets.
Rawlings and his “house cleaning” colleagues found the Generals guilty for betraying the nation and meted out the ultimate punishment of death.
Mr. Jerry Rawlings exited the scene after a short stay, but returned on the night of December 31st, 1981, and stayed for 19 long years, before handing over, in 2001.
In the early days of the 1981 Revolution, more innocent Ghanaians suffered the ultimate punishment of death, because, they were labelled “TRAITORS”.
Was Major General Odartey Wellington not shot like a common thief at the Nima Police Station because, as Army Commander, he was keeping to his oath, and attempting to foil the 1981 coup?
Who can forget the murder of the 3 High Court judges and the retired Major of the Ghana Army, at Bundase?
Between 1982 and 1986/87, how many innocent Ghanaians did not suffer because they were labelled as “traitors” and “enemies” of the revolution”?
A lot of water has passed under the bridge, and today, Rawlings is wearing both tags of being a “traitor” and an “enemy of the NDC’s revolution”.
Yes, Rawlings has become a traitor and an enemy within the ranks of the great National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Rawlings has mortgaged his body, soul, and spirit to his wife and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), and he is now betraying the party that made him who he is.
Rawlings did not make himself; it is the loyal and hardworking cadres of the revolution, as well as those he is referring to as “evil dwarfs”, who made him who he is.
For example, if Kwadwo Boakye-Gyan and co had not staged the June 4th coup and released Rawlings from guardroom, would Rawlings not have long departed from this world?
Was it not Captain Kojo Tsikata, Professor Kofi Awoonor, Tsatsu Tsikata, P.V. Obeng and co, who were thinking for Rawlings?
So there is no way Rawlings made himself; other people made him!
After continuously stabbing His Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills in the back, for not dealing ruthlessly with the NPP operatives, is it not the height of treachery and betrayal, that after the death of the late President, Rawlings is now kissing and hugging Nana Akufo-Addo, and pledging his support for the NPP?
Honestly, is it not the height of betrayal and treachery for Rawlings to now be granting exclusive interviews to Kennedy Agyepong’s Oman FM?
Was it not Kennedy Agyepong who threatened in 2008, to kill Rawlings, his family, and all living creatures in his house?
And Rawlings now feels comfortably inviting Kennedy Agyepong’s station into his living room? Lord, have mercy!
If we are to go by the mindset of JJ in 1979 and 1981, would the NDC not be right in tying him to the stakes at Teshie and putting live bullets through his flesh because of the traitorous manner in which he is misbehaving?
Yes, if we are to go by the logic of JJ in 1979, should the NDC not be cleaning its house, and throwing JJ out of the party?
Come to think of it; when Rawlings beat up Vice President Arkaah, was it not because he accused his vice of being a traitor?
What Rawlings is doing today to the NDC, is it not worse than what Arkaah did?
So if Rawlings beat up Arkaah for committing a less form of treachery, should the NDC not mass up and give Rawlings a proper hiding for his gargantuan form of treachery?
Every time Rawlings gets the opportunity, he talks about “INTEGRITY”: Does he really understand the word, or he just uses it?
Does Rawlings really think he can pass the test of integrity in the wake of how he has done maximum damage to his image?
Indeed, if Rawlings understood the real meaning of integrity, he would not be referring to Kofi Adams (who was caught on tape plotting with Gabby Otchere-Darko to ensure the defeat of the NDC) and Josiah Aryeh (who attempted to sell the NDC to the NPP for $3,000), as men of integrity.
If JJ is really a man of integrity, he should be BOLD enough to leave the NDC and join his wife’s NDP.
Under the circumstances, we have a lot more respect for Konadu’s so-called integrity because she has been BOLD enough to resign from the NDC.
Rawlings wants to eat his cake and have it, so he is supporting his wife while still claiming to be the Founder of the NDC.
Is this a mark of integrity? Certainly not!!!
It is the mark of shameless opportunism.
Rawlings is shameless opportunist and there is no denying this fact.
Mr. Rawlings should thank his stars that times have changed and so traitors can walk around free; because, were we in 1979 or 1981, he would have been tied to the stakes and shot the way he tied other people to the stakes and shot them for committing less traitorous crimes.
Mr. Rawlings, you are a big embarrassment to manhood, and you must bow down your head in shame!
