Mills For Strengthening State Institutions!!!
His Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills is no more with us; but there is no denying the fact, that Ghana will forever have his memory, firmly etched on the mind of the nation.
President Atta Mills cared for Ghana and was committed to building a Better Ghana; and his record stands tall.
In the wake of the unfortunate (Melcon Plus) disaster that hit the nation two days ago, it has come to the fore that, but for President Atta Mills’s strong commitment to strengthening state institutions, the death toll would have been calamitous.
For the 8 torrid years that John Agyekum Kufuor and his looting brigade presided over affairs of the State, the nation’s institutions were reduced to “ground zero”.
Under the watch of Kufuor, the, Police, Military, Fire Service, NADMO, and other state institutions, were rendered useless.
Apart from not equipping state institutions to function properly, Mr. Kufuor also did nothing to improve their conditions of service.
Within the 3+years that President Atta Mills had been in charge of the affairs of state, all Ghana’s state institutions have had their images rebuilt.
Inasmuch as the nation was caught in a web of grief over the trapping of people under the collapsed Melcom Plus Supermarket building at Achimota, many were those who were happy that our security services and other state institutions, have been up to the task.
Thanks to President Atta Mills, the Police, Military, Fire Service, NADMO, and other sister agencies, responded quickly to the disaster, to save lives.
Thanks to President Atta Mills, the National Ambulance Service has been equipped with personnel and vehicles.
Thanks to President Atta Mills, the Fire Service is now boasting of state-of-the-art fire tenders and other logistics.
Thanks to President Atta Mills, the Ghana Armed Forces is now equipped to help in times of difficulty.
Thanks to President Atta Mills, the Police Service has been given the necessary logistics to function effectively.
Thanks to President Atta Mills, NADMO now has the requisite manpower and logistics to deal with national disasters.
The Prisons Service, Immigration Service, CEPS, and other agencies, have all benefited immensely from the Better Ghana Agenda of President Atta Mills.
Thanks to President Atta Mills’s introduction of the Single Spine Salary Structure, public sector workers (including the security services) are now highly motivated to give off their best.
Only God knows the number of lives that would have been lost if our security services were still operating under the uncaring and wicked watch of Kufuor and the NPP.
The Informer is not surprised that the security services voted massively against the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2008.
For sure, our security personnel had had enough of the ill-treatment by Kufuor and the NPP, and decided to vote for President Atta Mills’s Better Ghana agenda.
And true to his promise, President Atta Mills had rebuilt the image of our security services, to the admiration of those who have eyes, and want to see the good works of the late learned Professor.
The Informer commends President John Dramani Mahama, for truncating political elections’ campaign in the northern Ghana and rushing to Accra to show concern and to give moral support to the security services.
Leadership; is the hallmark of every true President, and President John Mahama has exhibited sterling leadership qualities that cannot go unnoticed.
President Mahama has made it profoundly clear that the NDC Government is a very caring one that cares for the well-being of the people.
Unlike uncaring Akufo-Addo, who chose to continue campaigning in the face of a national disaster, President Mahama suspended his campaign in order to be at the disaster scene, to lend his support to the rescue efforts.
There is no denying the fact that, President Atta Mills would have done what President Mahama has done; and The Informer is proud of the political tradition to which we belong.
Our heart goes out to the families of the Melcom Disaster deceased, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery.
As for our security personnel in their rescue efforts; we salute them for a good job done.
We also salute the individuals and non-security agencies that have also helped in mitigating the loss.
Of course, we salute the media for the service to mother Ghana, by, first of all, breaking the news, and keeping a close eye on the matter.
Most of all, we thank God Almighty for his Grace and Mercy that have saved Mother Ghana from what could have been a worse form of disaster.
As His Excellency President John Mahama promises, we must fish out those whose negligence allowed this calamity to befall the nation, and ensure that “Heads Roll” (apologies to Koku Anyidoho).
His Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills, Ghana is extremely grateful to you for the hard work you put into rebuilding and re-equipping our state institutions; and may you continue to love and care for Ghana as you rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord.
May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make us greater and stronger.
