Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the premier private waste management company in the country is to establish a tertiary institution to be known as Ghana Waste management Institute which will serve as an institute for higher learning in training people for the waste management industry in Ghana and beyond.

The Institute, according to information gathered, will offer Certificate, Diploma and Degree courses with the organization of short modular courses already in progress.

This was disclosed in Kumasi when the company, as part of its nationwide public education of sanitation and media sensitization, organized a briefing for the media within the Kumasi metropolis last Friday at the Sports Hotel, Kumasi.

Led by the Company’s Operations Manager, Mr. Lawrence Laryea and the Communications Manager, Mrs. Isabella Gyau Orhin, the team interacted with a cross section of the print and electronic media who were briefed on the activities of Zoomlion. The topics treated included Public Cleansing, Solid Waste pre-collection services and Refuse heap evacuation, Maintenance of landfill sites, Domestic Waste disposal, Eco-Brigade activities on and around Lake Bosomtwe and many more.

The media was entreated to support the company in propagating environmental sanitation issues to the people of Kumasi and the Ashanti Region as a whole. The Zoomlion team also encouraged the media not to hesitate in approaching the offices of the company for clarification of pertinent issues that will have a bearing on the activities of the company.

Addressing the media, Communications Manager of Zoomlion, Mrs. Orhin said that Kumasi was heavily tagged as the ‘Garden City’ of Africa because of its panache of cleanliness in and around the city. She, therefore, called for an attitudinal change on the part of the people in treating the sanitation of their individual homes and the entire city as a priority.

Mrs. Orhin also touched on the zoning of the Kumasi metropolis and revealed the areas under Zoomlion’s waste management as Asawase, Subin and Tafo. She reiterated her company’s resolve to ensure that the areas allocated to Zoomlion would get the best of waste management and other related best services, especially when the company is augmenting its stock of machinery and equipment for its management of waste for the region.
