The Operations Director at the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), Ghana’s lead agency in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), Col Dominic Buah, is reportedly being replaced.
The Commander of NAIMOS is reportedly being replaced as part of a rotation in the Ghana Armed Forces.
Award-winning journalist Erastus Asare Donkor, who broke this report, praised the outgoing Operations Director of NAIMOS for his contribution in the fight against galamsey.
“Commander of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat, NAIMOS, is being replaced in what sources at the Ghana Armed Forces describe as rotation.
“Col Buah has been very instrumental in the fight until now. A very principled soldier who was determined in this fight against Galamsey. In many instances, he stood his ground against many interests and insisted that the right thing must be done,” he wrote on Facebook on May 26, 2026.
He prayed that the new person coming to lead NAIMOS would be someone who would continue the good works of Col Buah.
“It is my HOPE that his replacement will continue and even exceed expectations in the fight against this cancer which is eating away everything we hold dear.”
