Cocoa robber killed

A 35-year-old suspected armed robber, Kwame Burger, was on Wednesday shot dead by an unknown person among a mob when he allegedly attempted to cart away cocoa beans from a shed at Larbikrom, a farming community near Asuom in the Kwabibirim District of the Eastern Region.

According to reports, Kwame Burger, with other two suspects who are currently on the run, broke into the shed at about 12 am and collected three sacks of the cocoa beans.

The reports asserted that when they were attempting to ran away with the produce, a neighbour spotted them and raised an alarm.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that as the suspects were being chased through the bush, someone from the mob allegedly pulled a pump-action gun and shot Burger, who died immediately.

The body has been deposited at the Asamankese Government Hospital for autopsy while the secretary receiver in the area, Elder Daniel Tetteh, is said to have been arrested and placed in police custody assisting in investigations.

A native of the area, who gave his name as Power, in a chat with DAILY GUIDE, said Kwame Burger was a resident of the area who had been stealing cocoa beans for the past two years and escaping arrest.

The paper gathered that the Asuom police chief, Inspector Darko, ordered the arrest of the secretary receiver for interrogations on the circumstances that led to the death of Burger.

Although in his caution statement at the police station, Mr Daniel Tetteh is said to have indicated that he knew nothing about who shot the suspect – since the incident happened at midnight – he likely to be put before the Kade District court today for trial.

When DAILY GUIDE contacted Inspector Darko, he said the police were investigating the case, and so he wouldn’t pass any comments.
