Cocoa mass spraying supervisor fined for stealing insecticides

Asamankese (E/R), Feb. 11, GNA - The Asamankese Circuit Court on Monday fined Robert Tetteh, 30, a supervisor of a mass Cocoa spraying gang, the sum of GHc1,000 for stealing 25 cartons of insecticides valued more than GHc5,440 belonging to the Cocoa Services Division. Tetteh pleaded guilty to stealing and he would serve three years in prison in hard labour if he fails to pay the fine. Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah, that Tetteh first stole 10 cartons of the insecticide in December 2006 and another 15 cartons in January, 2007 at Santronme Zorh, near Suhum.

He said on May 27, 2007, Police received a report from the Suhum Cocoa Officer that Tetteh conveyed the insecticides in a taxi and sold them to one Alex at Sankore in the Brong Ahafo region. The prosecutor said a police investigation team went to Sankore but could not retrieve the insecticides.
