A women group calling itself the Coalition of the National Democratic Congress Women Group in the Northern Region has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider the appointment of a female minister for the Northern Region.
It said the region had been yearning for a female leader for far too long and the time to do it was now which would not only unite the area but restore to the NDC the large female following that it used to have.
The Coalition’s Secretary, Miss Muzzammil Zainab, told a news conference on Tuesday that the President was noted for his gender activism and are optimistic that he would ‘walk the talk’ in demonstrating in breaching the gender gap in the Northern Region.
She said a female leader would act in a sober and calm attitude to control the otherwise ‘Who is Who’ attitude of male leadership, which she claimed, led to conflicts.
Miss Zainab said the best way for the President to break the myth surrounding women’s role in leadership and to encourage parents to give equal opportunities to their children was to appoint a female minister to serve as a role model to many young girls in the area who do not value education.
