The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives Ghana has expressed gratitude for recent support but is demanding the immediate settlement of all outstanding salary arrears owed to its members.

The call follows the disbursement of only one month’s arrears after nearly a year of unpaid service.

In a statement issued on Thursday and jointly signed by Mr Stephen Kwadwo Takyiah, Convener, and Ms Jane Ofori Atta, Secretary of the Coalition, the group commended the stakeholders for their continued solidarity during what it described as a “long and painful fight.”

The stakeholders, the statement said, included the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, the Unified Press Nursing and Midwifery Group, and the media.

The Coalition confirmed that its members received one month’s salary in November 2025, which “confirms that when we rise together, we cannot be ignored.”

However, the single payment after 11 to 12 months of service was “far from satisfactory,” it said.

The statement said the limited disbursement served as a painful reminder of the extent of neglect faced by nurses and midwives across the country.

“Our members have endured debt, eviction threats, hunger, psychological stress, and daily humiliation, only to finally receive a single month’s pay.”

The Coalition urged the Government and the Ministry of Health to present a clear, written roadmap for settling all outstanding salary arrears by the first week of December 2025.

It further demanded full payment of all accumulated arrears without any justification for extending the delays beyond December 2025.

“As we enter the final month of the year, we expect the Government of Ghana and the Ministry of Health to match our sacrifice with fairness, respect, and action, because the hardship is unbearable, the delay is unjustifiable, and the world is still watching,” the statement added.

The Coalition reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful engagement but emphasised its resolve to secure what was rightfully owed to its members.
