Coalition marches in support of Domestic Violence Bill

Accra, March 4, GNA - Domestic Violence Coalition, a nongovernmental organization (NGO) would on March 8, embark on a march in support of the Domestic Violence Bill which is yet to be passed by Parliament. The march, which would start at 0700 hours from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the Ministries, is to prevail upon the Government to expedite action on the bill.

The march would also be in commemoration of the International Women's Day.

A statement signed by Nana Asantewa Afadzinu, Co-ordinator of the Coalition, pointed out that "all that we lovers of domestic peace is asking the Government is to live up to its word and carry out its promise made at several international fora to defend victims of domestic violence of which 90 per cent are women and children". The coalition expressed worry at the pace of progress on the Bill and requested the Government to fulfil its obligations to the people of Ghana by expediting action on it.
