Clergymen appeals to Director-General of GES

Bodomase (Ash), April 25, GNA- A clergyman has appealed to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), to come out with a blue print on the role of religious bodies in the management of education in the country.

The Right Reverend Samuel Agyemang-Kwakye, Bishop of the Effiduase Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, who made the appeal, said such an effort would help to define the specific roles and responsibilities of religious bodies to ensure quality educational delivery.

He said a critical look at the educational reforms in the country over the years indicated that "during every educational reform, the policy makers make conscious efforts to eliminate religious bodies from the management of education and that this had contributed immensely to the fallen standards of education and morals in recent times". Rt. Rev. Agyemang-Kwakye was speaking at the 11th Annual Synod of the Diocese at Bodomase near Kumawu in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region on Friday.

It was held on the theme "Christ for the World".

The Diocesan Bishop said it was about time that the GES valued the contribution of religious bodies in the nation's educational delivery and development, which had helped to instill discipline and hard work in pupils, students and the youth in general.

He entreated the nation's leaders to be transparent and accountable to the masses to ensure effective utilization of the nation's resources to benefit the people.

Rt. Rev. Agyemang-Kwakye urged members of Methodist church to use the synod to reflect on the achievements and failures of the diocese and endeavour to chart a new course to enhance the church's development.
