Voice of America (VOA) has signed an affiliation and licensing agreement with Social advocacy platform, Class91.3FM.

This means intermittently, Class91.3FM will be liaising some of its programming with some of VOA’s content and vice versa especially during the December polls.

The agreement was signed on Thursday, 5 March 2020 at the newsroom of Accra-based Class91.3FM.

Present at the signing were Manager for Class91.3FM, Robert Israel, Head of Class News, Napo Ali Fuseini, Regional Marketing Director for West and Central Africa for VOA, Kathryn Peterson and Regional marketing assistant for VOA West Africa, Adelaide Aidoo.

Explaining the need for the partnership, Mr Israel noted that realising the immense impact of the media on people, it was an opportune time to tap each-others well-produced content and the mileage both stations have.

For her part, Ms. Peterson was excited about the partnership agreement.

“Today is a very exciting day for us at Voice of America to have such an established radio station in Accra Ghana come on board. It’s exciting for Voice of America to have such esteemed partner as yourselves and we’re happy that you’ve been part of the VOA family by being listeners in the past.

“Voice of America has independence from the US government so what that means is that we have a firewall between our news staff and the US government in any of its agencies that they cannot tell VOA what to air and what not to air and what stories to run and what stories not to run. And part of our mission is promoting democracy and freedom of speech and we feel that freedom of speech is really important in any country’s fight against fake news control and especially government control. So we’re very excited to have a partner in Ghana like yourselves that generate news under the same way that we do, independently.”

News Editor for Class News, Napo Ali Fuseini described the partnership as “good times” for Class 91.3FM.

Listeners of Class91.3FM beginning from the next few days will be entreated with more content to serve their needs.

VOA’s programmes such as ‘News Cast, Sonny side of sports, Music Time in Africa, African Music Mix, Straight Talk Africa, Health Chat and Let’s Talk’ are expected to be aired on Class91.3FM.

Class91.3FM is part of Class Media Group (CMG), which operates Accra100.5FM, No.1 105.3FM, Kumasi104.1FM, Adehyee99.1FM, Ho FM, CTV, Tamale FM, Takoradi FM and ClassFMonline.com.
