The former President of the Full Gospel Church International and former Executive Council member of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Bishop Dr Samuel Mensah, has issued a public call to President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to clearly restate his position on LGBTQ+ matters.
In a press statement released on Friday, April 3, 2026, the respected clergy leader appealed to President Mahama to reaffirm assurances he gave during pre-election engagements with religious leaders under the “Mahama Fellowship with the Clergy.”

According to the statement, those interactions went beyond routine political dialogue and were grounded in “trust, shared values, and moral responsibility,” resonating strongly with Ghana’s religious community.
Bishop Dr Mensah emphasised that leadership at the national level carries both administrative and moral obligations, adding that commitments made before the clergy and the nation must be upheld with “consistency and integrity.”
“Ghana remains a nation firmly grounded in faith, strong family systems, and rich cultural values,” the statement noted, while acknowledging the influence of global conversations and external pressures on LGBTQ+ issues.
However, Bishop Mensah stressed that national leadership must reflect the beliefs and traditions of the Ghanaian people, warning that any perceived silence or ambiguity could create uncertainty, particularly among faith communities.
“At this critical time, clarity is not optional; it is essential,” the statement said, adding that unclear positions risk sending “mixed signals to the next generation.”
Bishop Mensah further underscored the broader societal implications, noting that the values upheld today would shape the country’s future moral and social fabric.

He concluded by urging President Mahama to publicly articulate a “clear, principled, and consistent” stance that aligns with his earlier assurances, stating that such a move would reinforce public confidence and demonstrate the integrity and accountability expected of national leadership.
