Civil servants undermining gov’t must be sacked – Minister

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Northern Regional Minister has served notice to civil servants who have the habit of undermining government and its appointees to stop or they would be sacked.

He observed that some civil servants especially in the Region have the habit of undermining ministers, metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives because they either do not sympathise with the government or they think they have “political God fathers”.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru gave the advice when he interacted with personnel of district Assemblies in Gushiegu, Tatale-Sangule, Tolon, Kumbungu and Mamprugu –Moaduri, during an official visit.

He said time management is one of his major priorities, which must be adhered to while those who exhibit unprofessional conduct and play open politics as civil servants would face the full rigours of the law if his attention is drawn to their activities.

“There are some of you who want to be more Christians than Jesus Christ, some of you are chairmen and secretaries of political parties yet you occupy positions, which contravene the Civil Service Act. Some of you think you have political God fathers and for that matter you are not respecting your DCEs (district chief executives) and if you have that habit stop before you are shown the exit,” he warned.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru said he is not vindictive but whoever wants to victimise him or undermine the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government so that it would fail would be sacked.

“Even if you are a younger brother of Nana Akufo-Addo and you are working professionally, you would be my best friend but if you are John Mahama’s brother and you want to undermine the government, you will be sacked.”

He explained that as civil servants there is need to remain neutral and serve whichever government is in power because they are serving the nation but not parties.

“I worked under the late Courage Quashigah during the NPP (New Patriotic Party) administration and I never showed my political colour or did anything to undermine the NPP government,” he said.

He said there are some civil servants who sympathise with the NDC and are playing sycophancy thinking that if they reveal their political colours that would be made DCEs or ministers.

“It is wrong under the Civil Service Act to show or suggest that you belong to a political party,” he said.

He said the 1992 Constitution gives everybody the right and freedom of association but political association has to be secret so as to increase productivity and to prevent undermining and victimisation at work place.

The minister paid courtesy calls on chiefs and the people and appealed to them to allow peace to prevail in the Region to facilitate development.

He said a lot of resources, which would have gone into development projects, are being used in conflict resolution, which must stop!

He also inspected ongoing development projects.
