Civil servants accuse govt of "deception"

Cape Coast, Oct. 27, GNA - Civil servants in the Cape Coast municipality on Thursday renewed threats to embark on industrial action if government fails to explain why it has not honoured the 11.5 per cent increment in salaries and the special allowances it promised.

At a meeting to elect executive officers for the municipal branch of the Civil Servants Association, the workers claimed that both the increment and allowances did not reflect in their salaries for this month, as expected.

They expressed concern about their present salaries, which they described as "unrealistic" and accused the government of "deceiving" them.

As a matter of urgency, the members tasked their executives to keep them abreast with further developments by next week, "to enable them to decide their next line of action".

Mr William Affram, Regional Secretary of the Association appealed to the workers to exercise restraint, since the matter had been referred to the national executives, for resolution.

Madam Agnes Amanquah, a senior executive officer of the Public Works Department (PWD), was elected municipal chairperson, Mr Godfred Annan as organiser/treasurer and Mr Kwamena Dennis, secretary.
