Mr Padmore Agyapong, Country Director of Compassion International Ghana (CIG), a Christian non-governmental organisation (NGO), has called on church leaders to support underprivileged children in the society to grow responsibly.
Church leaders should endeavour to help poor children in their communities in various forms, he said.
Mr Agyapong made the call at the end of a two-day vision casting conference, organised by the NGO, which attracted 85 participants from different churches.
He said the conference has afforded the churches the opportunity to know more of the organisation’s programmes and future partnership with them.
CIG has registered 50,000 children in the Central, Greater Accra, Volta and Eastern Regions.
Mr Agyapong said the exercise would be extended to the Ashanti Region in July to encourage the beneficiary children to undertake Sunday bible classes.
Mr Nicholas Ntiamoah, Advocacy Specialist of CIG commended the pastors and church leaders for coming together to brainstorm on how to assist needy children in their communities.
Mr Frank Annoh Dompreh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam- Adogyiri who was the guest speaker, called on the participants to emulate the good examples of other churches and communities.
He pledged to support the NGO with the MPs share of the District Assemblies Common Fund to enable it realise its vision of freeing children from abject poverty.
Mr Dompreh said since the youth are the back bone of the country, there is the need to give them proper training in education and bible studies, to equip them with right skills and attitude to become responsible leaders in the future.
