Juaso (Ash), Dec. 22, GNA – Christians have been called on to provide the needed leadership to help people live in peace and harmony as the nation ushered in the Christmas festivities.
They should encourage all to be tolerant of one another and to demonstrate a high sense of patriotism.
Mr De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante-Akim South, said this during a Carols Night organized by the Local Council of Churches at Juaso.
He appealed to Christians not to only commit themselves to the activities of the church but to also actively participate in the national development effort.
He said as the 2012 general election approached it was important for the clergy to use the pulpit to preach the peace to help protect the country’s democratic credentials.
Reverend Father Dominic Mensah Assim, the Juaso Catholic Parish Priest, called on Christians to lead Christ-like lives of humility, selflessness, sacrifice and service to humanity.
He appealed to Ghanaians to be truthful and to be kind to each other to give a true meaning to the spirit of Christmas.
Rev Osborn Arthur, Chairman of the Council, underlined the need for religious and political tolerance to safeguard the peace and national cohesion.
