Christians tasked to live in peace with neighbours

Tamso, June 5, GNA - A clergyman has called on Christians to ensure peace and set good examples for emulation by their neighbours in society. The Right Reverend Thomas Christian Barffo, Methodist Bishop of the Tarkwa Diocese, said Christians may be confronted with trials and tribulations but 93with Jesus in the vessel they will smile at the storm= '. He was delivering the sermon at the 25th anniversary celebration of th= e Mount Zion Methodist Church at Tamso a suburb of Tarkwa.

The event was on the theme: 93Praise we the wise, brave and strong, w= ho graced their generation." Bishop Barffo said it was mandatory for every Christian to excel and those who failed in that regard should reflect on their lives and improve upon their performances.

He congratulated the Church for 25 years of effective ministry and asked the Church to work hard to achieve its targets. Bishop Barffo entreated the Church to take stock of its actions and inactions for the past 25 years and asked Christians to let their light shine before men to glorify the name of God.

The Diocesan Lay Chairman, Mrs. Kate Abena Yankson, said the Church over the past 25 years has grown into a vibrant religious organisation in the Tarkwa Diocese.

She charged the Church not to be complacent with its achievements but to work harder to attain more progress.

Mrs. Yankson explained that the celebration marked the beginning of another arduous journey of the Church towards achieving spiritual and material successes for members.

The Mt Zion Methodist Church of Ghana that was established out of Efuanta Methodist Church on May 8, 1986, with a Christian community of 31 worshippers, presently has 1,110 members.

Some of the activities that were undertaken as part of the celebration, included gospel rock show, anniversary durbar, float through the principal street of Tamso, candle light possession, clean up exercise and inter organizational quiz, preaching and singing competition.
