Christians mark Easter Sunday with church activities

Christians in Ghana today April 21, joined their counterparts to mark Easter Sunday, which symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ who was crucified about 2000 years ago.

Easter signifies the victory of Christ over death and in Ghana, most church auditoriums were packed with regular and occasional worshipers (clad in white) who extolled the power of Christ’s resurrection.

Head Pastor of the Abeka Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev George Odonkor, appealed to Christians to seek true and genuine reconciliation with each other to sustain peace in the country.

Preaching the sermon, he noted that mistrust, suspicion and greed among members of the church has led to social disintegration, which does not augur well for mankind thereby requiring renewal in the spirit of forgiveness.

“If God has forgiven us our sins, why can’t we forgive others? But for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, you and I wouldn’t be here. Let’s fix our relationship with others and live at peace with all. Let’s establish peace and harmony amongst ourselves” he stated.

At the East Legon branch of Methodist church (Christ the King temple) presided by Very Reverend Kwesi Akyin Sekyi-Appiah, Ghanaians were asked to pray for their leaders and every other individual in a position of authority.

He added, the mantle of leadership is a tough call, hence the need for followers to constantly pray for their leaders.

Touching on the essence of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, he charged Christians to desist from the ungodly lifestyles they led before Easter.

“Let us love God, pray for the leaders of the nation and support them. Let us uphold cleanliness. Unfortunately we live in filth and it seems to me that we enjoy filth. That must not be so. Let us look up to Jesus for us as Ghanaians, if we look to Jesus and submit to him, there will be hope for our future”. He said.
