Chorkor Presby School receives ICT equipment

Plan Ghana, a child centred NGO has presented ICT equipment worth almost eight Thousand Ghana cedis (8,000) to the Chorkor Presbyterian Basic School as part of a project to give the opportunity to children in deprived urban areas to acquire ICT and other media skills. The items include Desk Computers, Printers, UPS and some other accessories. The project known as the Child media technology and ICT programme is an initiative by Studio 502 with support from Plan Ghana. The project has been in existence since 2007 with the aim of giving opportunity to children residing in deprived urban areas in Accra such as Chorkor to acquire ICT skills.

Presenting the items on behalf of Plan Ghana, the Acting Country Director William Acquah explained that there is the need for more children in deprived areas in urban communities to have access to information. Adding that this is the reason why Plan Ghana is providing the equipment to complement government’s efforts. Mr. Acquah pledged Plan Ghana’s continuous support to the children of Chorkor through training of teachers and pupils alike so the children can realize their full potential.

Mr. Acquah appealed to the school authorities to allow the children have access to the computers so they can acquire ICT skills. She added that Plan Ghana’s prime interest is to see the impact of this ICT project in the near future, where children will have access to the computers, acquire ICT skills and make good use of the skills to promote their rights.

The ceremony was attended by the Metropolitan Director of Education, Officials from the Ghana Education Service, staff of Studio 502, Gt. Accra Regional Manager of Presbyterian school, and Minister in-charge of the District was present.press men and women among others.
