Running mate to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 general elections and former Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has made a compelling and passionate appeal to NPP executives across the country to place Dr Mahamudu Bawumia first and elect him as the party’s next flagbearer.
In a powerful message delivered during meetings with regional and constituency executives in the Bono Region, Dr Opoku Prempeh said the future of the New Patriotic Party depends on choosing a leader who is prepared, visionary and capable of restoring the party’s strength.
According to him, Dr Bawumia is the only candidate with the experience, discipline and modern leadership mindset needed to reposition the NPP for victory.
He urged executives to reflect deeply on what lies ahead for the party and the country, stressing that the choice they make now will define the NPP’s path to recovery after the 2024 electoral loss.
“If we truly want to rebuild and return to power, then we must rally behind the leader who has shown unmatched dedication and readiness. That leader is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he declared.
Dr Opoku Prempeh emphasised that while internal contestations are normal in democratic politics, the NPP must not allow differences to overshadow the need for unity behind the elephant. He reminded members that the party is strongest when it stands together and weakest when divided.
In a rare moment of candour and humility, Dr Opoku Prempeh acknowledged the shortcomings of the Nana Addo–led administration, including decisions that contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. He offered an apology on behalf of himself, Dr Bawumia and the former government, describing it as an important step toward rebuilding public trust.
He noted that honest reflection, unity and collective resolve are the only tools that can restore the NPP’s credibility and set the stage for a stronger comeback.
Dr Opoku Prempeh therefore called on all executives to conduct their campaigns with civility, respect and discipline, reminding them that once the internal contest ends, every member will be needed to push the party toward victory.
He concluded with a stirring message of hope:
“If we stand together and choose the right leader — Dr Mahamudu Bawumia—the NPP will rise again. Our comeback is in our own hands.”
The message has energised party faithful and is already resonating across the grassroots as a rallying call for unity, renewal and focused leadership ahead of the upcoming flagbearer election.
