Chinese man storms chief’s palace to arrest sub-chief over stolen vehicle

A Chinese national has accused a subchief of Tamale of stealing his vehicle three months ago and stormed a palace in Tamale Tuesday night to cause his arrest.

Stunning residents yesterday, Nov 14, 2017, the Chinese national and his Ghanaian worker flown in from Accra to take custody of the vehicle and demand arrest of Mohammed Hafiz, Chief of entertainment at the Dakpemah Palace and head of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly Taskforce.

His Ghanaian worker and interpreter who gave his name only as Ibrahim addressed a group of assemblymen at the Dakpemah Palace before going into a meeting with the chief and elders to address the theft allegation. He said the Chinese national owned a company in Accra where he works and the vehicle was given to him for sale.

He told the assembly members the chief traveled to Accra in August this year and showed interest in buying the vehicle but fled to Tamale during a test drive moment.

According to him, the chief requested to test drive the vehicle but called him on phone moments later to inform him he was traveling with the vehicle to Tamale to respond to an emergency call from the chief of Tamale, His Royal Highness Mohammed Alhassan Dawuni.

Ibrahim told the prying assembly members the subchief promised to wire the money into his account when he reached Tamale but never heard from him three months now prompting the visit.

The two then went into a heavily restricted and closed door meeting with the chief and elders who arranged for it to resolve the embarrassing charge against the sub chief. Ibrahim later came out after the long and exhaustive private session to tell the members of the assembly that the chief handed back the vehicle to them and pleaded on behalf of his sub chief.

He said the entertainment chief did not deny the charge and was incoherent throughout the meeting. They have since left with the vehicle.

Assembly member for an electoral area in Lamashegu who refused to be named said the Chinese national looked sure after the meeting.

According him the Chinese businessman told them he was embarrassed at the intervention of the chief and that he wanted the sub chief arrested for stealing and fleeing with his vehicle.

The assemblyman told Kasapa News the situation had embarrassed both the traditional authority and Metropolitan assembly where the sub chief also serves as government appointee and head of the troubled task force.

He indicated that the Assembly would consider hauling the sub chief before the disciplinary committee for investigations and sanctions.

When Kasapa News contacted the sub chief, he said the claim of theft was inaccurate but failed to give his details of the incident. He said he was going to address the matter today on his radio show.

“I wanna give you and exclusive on my own show tomorrow evening 92.1, so everybody should listened to that one… It’s gone be on my show”, he slangs in UK language.

The subchief popularly known as Dema-Naa, a Dagbani title for entertainment chief is not new to controversies since his journey back from Britain where he served as an army officer.

Last year, he was a subject of investigations by the Dakpemah Palace after his obscene comments about Tamale ladies during a live radio show sparked widespread indignation.
