Chinese Ambassador calls on Health Minister

Accra, May 4, GNA - Professor Kwaku Danso-Boafo, Minister of Health, on Thursday appealed to embassies in the country to assist the ministry in its effort to expand health delivery.

Prof. Danso-Boafo made the call when Mr Lu Yongshou, Chinese Ambassador, paid a courtesy call on him in his office in Accra. He said Ghana and China have maintained cordial relations over the years, which could form the basis for co-operation in the health sector, especially in traditional herbal medicine.

Mr Yongshou called for co-operation and assured the minister of his embassy's readiness to assist the sector. Dr. Emmanuel N. Mensah, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, who returned from China recently, said while there his delegation visited companies that manufacture Chinese herbal medicine.

He said the ministry has plans for large-scale cultivation and production of herbal medicinal products. It will also establish an acupuncture training school.
