Children are the insurance for the future - Kufuor

Accra, Nov.6, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday said Children being the insurance for the future of any country, should be given the best conditions for growth.

"Children are the insurance for the future of any country and people, therefore, they should be given the best conditions for growth and the adults in society should not fail them", he said.

President Kufuor was addressing a delegation from the World Vision International (WVI) attending the Africa Directors Conference and Board Forum in Accra, who paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu.

The conference brought together African Directors of the International Christian, Relief and Development organization, to share ideas and to assess the challenges they might face in the coming year, how to deepen their assistance to the needy and elect representatives to serve on the WVI Board.

President Kufuor commended the organization for focusing their activities on the welfare of children especially those affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and conflicts.

He said Ghana was lucky to be enjoying peace in the midst of turmoil in the Sub-Region and pledged the commitment of ECOWAS to solve the conflicts and restore peace and stability for good governance and socio-economic development.

Mr Watt Santatiwat, Senior Vice President World Vision International, commended the Government for co-operating with the organization to work effectively.

He said for the past 24 years that the organization had been in Ghana it had tried to assist the poor and vulnerable in society to improve on their standard of living.

Dr Wilfred Mlay, World Vision Vice President for Africa, said the organization operates in 25 countries in Africa.

He said World Vision was interested in the future and welfare of the African Continent to make the needed impact in the world.

World Vision operates in 100 countries worldwide to promote the well being of people, with a special focus on children. In Ghana, the organization has programmes in all the 10 administrative regions.
