Odubi (Ash), July 18, GNA – Chiefs and people in the various communities have been urged to offer unit committees at the assemblies’ level every necessary support and encouragement to help them to perform.
Mr Emmanuel Victor Boadu, a Principal Civic Educator at the Asante-Akim South District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said this would give true meaning to the country’s decentralization process.
Speaking at a public education forum on the duties and functions of the committees as well as that of assembly members at Odubi near Obogu on Monday, he said it was through the committees that governance was brought to the grass roots.
He asked members of the committees to be transparent and accountable in the activities.
Mr Boadu said by doing this they would win the support and cooperation of the people.
He said they also needed to establish good working relations with the assembly members and chiefs to ensure smooth implementation of development projects in their communities.
Nana Ofosu Ababio, Chief of Odubi, commended the NCCE for its efforts at helping the people to have better understanding of the role of the unit committees.
He used the occasion to appeal to the Assembly to build a new classroom block to replace the weak structure at the D/A primary school in the community.
