Chiefs Attend Seminar On Humanitarian Law

Ho, (Volta Region) 7 Oct.,

Twenty chiefs in the Volta Region yesterday attended a day's seminar on International Humanitarian Law (IHL). The seminar, organised by the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was to educate the chiefs on laws under the IHL in relation to national domestic laws in times of wars and conflicts. It is the first of three such seminars to be organised for chiefs in the Volta, Brong Ahafo and Eastern regions. Mrs. Gloria Dua-Sakyi, coordinator of the seminar said the chiefs are expected to disseminate what they have learnt among their people to enable them to know how they are expected to treat combatants, ship-wrecks in war, prisoners of war and the civilian population in times of war and conflict. She briefed the participants on the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
