Chief supports three-year duration for senior high school

Hohoe, Aug 5, GNA - Togbega Gabusu VI, the Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area, has commended the government for its decision to revert the duration of the Senior High School (SHS) to three years. He however said the duration would be meaningless if infrastructure, teacher motivation, supervision and syllabi were not strengthened and improved.

Togbega Gabusu told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the country's human resource base risked being jeopardized in a competitive global landscape when policies that were meant to restructure the education sector were reduced to partisan politics.

He said the constant back-to-back alteration of policies and reforms had only succeeded in weakening the otherwise solid standards bequeathed the education sector.

"Future generations would not forgive politicians, academia and other major stakeholders if they bequeath them with a weak educational system".

He suggested a non-partisan roadmap backed by state commitment to fashion out a time tested policy viewed from national lenses as a way forward for the sector.

Togbega Gabusu said teacher motivation was pivotal to any new reform.
