Chief remanded for selling forest reserve land

Tarkwa (W/R) Feb.24, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit Court presided over by Mr John Aject Nassam, on Thursday remanded Nana Kwame Obeng, Chief of Obengkrom near Sefwi Asawinso to two weeks prison custody for selling part of the Krokosue hill forest reserve for 3.2 million cedis. The pleas of two farmers, Wahab Kusasi and Charles Tetteh who were jointly charged for encroaching on the forest reserve without authority farmers were not taken and are to reappear on March 10.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Asamoah said, Nana Obeng sold the lands to Kusasi and Tetteh for 1.6 million cedis each. He said on February 2, a team of forestry officers who were patrolling the reserve arrested Kusasi and Tetteh for clearing portions of land.
