The Chief of Staff serving under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare has as part of her annual activities given items worth GHC5000 to the maternity ward of the Legon Hospital on the birthday celebration of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah’s birthday.

According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly Sandra Owusu Ahinkora who presented the items on behalf of the Chief of Staff disclosed that Frema Opare was instrumental in ensuring the start-up and completion of the maternity facility at the Legon Hospital when she was the Member of Parliament.

She, however, explained that Madam Frema Opare was unable to attend due to an assignment from the President.

“This is a very short ceremony yet dear to the heart of our mother, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Frema Opare. She really loved to be here to do this presentation herself but for an emergency assignment from HE the president…she was very instrumental in ensuring the start-up of this facility and its completion during her term as the member of Parliament of this constituency, Ayawaso West Wuogon”, she mentioned.

The MCE for Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly again said that choosing the birthday of Ghana’s First President, Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah to donate items to the maternity ward to show the importance of women as it took a woman to bring a personality of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to the world.

“Secondly, this past Saturday 21st of September was the birthday of an illustrious son of Ghana, Dr. Nkrumah. There cannot be birth without mothers and therefore our mother Frema Opare, being a mother and a giver decided to reach out to women particularly those who have just given birth and pregnant in a facility like this to encourage and to congratulate you”, she added.

Madam Sandra Owusu Ahinkora reiterated that the significant aspect of the donation made by the Chief of Staff to the Legon hospital maternity ward is to inculcate the habit of maintenance in the facility which she helped to build; hence, periodic checks of the maternity ward in order to know the progress report of the facility.

The items which the Chief of Staff cheerfully donated to the maternity ward which has been quantified as Ghc5, 000 Cedis included bags of maize, toiletries, diapers and pampers, and other necessary items needed at the maternity ward for both the newborn babies and their mothers as well as cash of Ghc2,000 Cedis to cater for the babies who may not able to be breastfed due to medical complications.

“It is my hope that you will receive these items with a cheerful heart and pray for her so that this can become an annual project. Thank you very much and God bless you”, she urged the staff of the maternity ward of the Legon Hospital.
