Chief decries mushrooming of oil and gas institutions

Takoradi, June 7, GNA - The Paramount Chief of the Nsein Traditional Area, Awulae Agyefi Kwame II, has warned the youth to be wary of mushrooming oil and gas institutions springing up in the country.
He said some of these institutions had no accreditation to operate therefore their certificates are not valid to secure them jobs with any of the international oil and gas companies.
He advised the youth to verify the accreditation of institutions that claimed to offer courses in oil and gas, from the Accreditation Board and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) before pursuing any programme with them to avert being swindled.
Awulae Agyefi Kwame made these remarks at the Jubilee oil Exhibition in Takoradi.
The photo exhibition is the sixth in the series, aimed at educating Ghanaians about the operations of the Jubilee Oil Partners nationwide.
It is also to deepen the understanding of Ghanaians about the operations of Tullow and its partners on the oil fields.
In an address, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Tullow, Dr. Tony Aubyn urged the youth to take advantage of the oil discovery in the country to pursue relevant courses in petrochemical, in order to become employable in the sector.
He noted that, since oil and gas is a new industry, there was the need for the people to be well abreast with the issues surrounding the sector. The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Sekondi-Takoradi, Mr Anthony Cudjoe lauded the Jubilee Oil Partners for providing a platform for people to be educated on the oil and gas industry, saying that, it would enhance information dissemination and ensure transparency.
He urged Tullow and its partners to expedite the establishment of a faculty on oil and gas at Takoradi Polytechnic, to train high and middle level experts in the sector.
The MCE tasked Tullow to adhere to international principle of protecting the environment from any form of pollution Mr Cudjoe urged Jubilee Oil partners to educate the public more about the local content policy to clear the minds of Ghanaians.
He commended Jubilee Oil Partners for initiating a number of social projects such as roads, health facilities and other social interventions in the metropolis and charged other oil companies to emulate the shining example of Jubilee Oil Partners.
