Chief commends presidency for tolerance

Nana Obrimpong Kanya II, Paramount Chief of Bejamse-Nchumuru in the Krachi-West District of the Volta Region, at the weekend commended the Executive for being tolerant to insults.

He also commended the Judiciary, Legislature, Media and the security agencies for their roles in enhancing democracy.

Nana Kanya made the commendation at this year’s Toora Asunke Festival in remembrance of the end of slavery and the payment of tributes to the Asante Central government through the King of Juaben in 1874.

It was on the theme: “Truth, firm, stability and development.”

Nana Kanya observed that, Ghana’s democratic credentials were attracting global interest and urged politicians to be tolerant and ensure peace at the December polls.

He expressed appreciation to the government for creating the Nchumuru District as well as the development projects started by previous administrations.

Nana Kanya noted that, enrollment in basic schools had soared in the area due to the school feeding programme and the provision of free school uniform to pupils.

He asked the government to train more teachers to improve teaching and learning.

He called on public officers to show greater accountability, integrity and probity of leadership.

Mr Henry Ford Kamel, Regional Minister urged people in the traditional area to take advantage of the new district status to enhance their livelihood.

He said government was fulfilling its promises made to the region, stating that, “by the grace of God, our University of Health and Allied Science will make its first admission of 200 students in September this year”.

Mr Kamel said work on the Eastern Corridor Road was also progressing steadily and called for support from the people.

Mr Yaw Osei Sarfo, Member of Parliament for Krachi-West, advised people in the area to remain united and give priority to the education of their children.

The festival was characterised by cultural performances including drumming and dancing.**
