Chief bemoans bad roads in Agona

Agona Duakwa, Nov 22, GNA- Nana Kojo Amoakwa V, Krontihene of Nyakrom Traditional Area, has appealed to the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) to as matter of urgency to rehabilitate the road from Winneba-Junction through Agona Swedru to Akim Akroso to facilitate easy movement of goods and people. He said the road that serves many communities had developed deep potholes and has become extremely difficult for vehicles to use it. Nana Amoakwa, who is also the Chief of Agona Duakwa, made the appeal during the celebration of the area's annual Akwesedea Festival at Duakwa in the Central Region.

Nana Amoakwa said because of the bad nature of the road, most drivers plying on it in most cases used only one lane which easily led to accidents. He noted that recently, a number of passengers sustained various degrees of injuries in an accident at the outskirt of Agona Swedru due to the poor road.

The Chief of Duakwa was not happy with the poor state of roads in the Swedru Township which was affecting the social and economic life of the people.

He also appealed to the government to rehabilitate the road linking Agona Duakwa to Mankrong-Junction, adding that since it was constructed in 1996, no repairs had been done it.

Nana Amoakwa said the rehabilitation of roads in the area would help the carting to foodstuff and cash crops which were abundant in the area. 22 Nov. 09
