Chief appeals for reactivation of Pomadze Poultry Farm

The newly installed Obaatan of Gomoa Pomadze, Nana Kwesi Esamah II, has appealed to the government to reactivate the defunct Pomadze Poultry Enterprise to augment the rural industrialization programme.

He said the project when revamped would employ more than 4,000 youth in and around the area, thus help to resolve the increasing unemployment challenge confronting the nation.

Nana Esamah made the appeal after his installation and recalled the useful role Pomadze Poultry Enterprise Limited played in the labour sector during the first Republican administration.

He said if serious steps were taken to revitalize the company, the poultry industry would be enhanced.

He said it was sad that office blocks and bungalows, as well as the actual industrial structure that the company used at the Ghana Seed Company area, and the huge feed mill structure situated near the Pomadze Township on the Agona Swedru Winneba Junction highway have all been left to rot at the expense of the State.

Obaatan Esamah said these industrial structures and similar abandoned State facilities in the Central and other regions of the country should be accorded serious and urgent attention to provide jobs for the citizens.

He said besides making the rural industrialization programme cost effective in the districts where old and well-built structures existed, it would go a long way to promote the “One District One Factory” concept greatly.

According to the Sub-Chief, the old office buildings, bungalows, and other operational structures of the Pomadze Poultry Enterprise Limited still looks very strong and useful and could be easily refurbished to commence business.

Nana Esamah suggested that government should appoint a special fact-finding team to map out such old rural industrial structures nationwide and see how best such facilities could be made useful to the nation and for the benefit of future generations.

Nana Esamah said the continuous rise of unemployed youth in the country posed a great danger to the future and that it was important the citizenry embrace the “One District One Factory” introduced by the current government devoid of partisan politics.

He called on government to assist the traditional councils to win foreign industrial partners to support the establishment of rural industries in the areas to create job opportunities for the people.
