Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has suggested that the Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu should be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize Award, ABC News Ghana can report.

In an interview monitored by ABC News Ghana, the Assin Central legislator said the Chief Imam ought to be recognised for his immense contribution to the lasting peace the country is currently enjoying.

He says the Chief Imam’s intervention in several conflict situations has led to a very stable and peaceful co-existence of religions, tribes, and several ethnic groupings, a feat, the firebrand politician sees as no mean achievement.

“The way he has promoted peace in Ghana, where Muslims, Christians and all non religious bodies have been able to live together, we should all emulate from him because we would have missed something if he wasn’t there,” Ken Agyapong said as he made a donation to the Muslim Cleric ahead of the Sala celebration.

“I always donate to him but this is my first time of coming to him personally to show that we respect him,we appreciate him,for all his efforts to promote peace in Ghana,” he added.

Ken Agyapong called for support, particularly from the media, for a push for higher recognition for the Chief Imam saying, “all media personnel should join me so that we propagate the Chief Imam to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.”
