Ghanaian social media entrepreneur Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been arrested after US authorities alleged that he participated in a criminal scheme that defrauded elderly Americans of more than $8 million through romance scams dating back to 2023.

He was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, following a joint operation involving multiple US and Ghanaian security agencies.

According to prosecutors in the Northern District of Ohio, Abu Trica and his co-conspirators used Artificial Intelligence tools to create fake identities, build intimate online relationships with victims, and solicit money under false pretenses, including medical emergencies and investment opportunities.

Authorities say he played a significant role in receiving and distributing fraud proceeds across several jurisdictions.

He has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

A few hours after his arrest and particularly following the release of details about the charges, videos of his luxury mansion have resurfaced, reigniting social media debates about the source of funds used to build the property.

The video of the wealthy young man’s mansion, located in Swedru, has caused a massive stir online.

The grand residence has left many Ghanaians astonished, with many questioning how he could afford such a plush estate.

The mansion is said to be one of the biggest houses in Abu Trica’s hometown of Swedru.

The stunning property features an expansive landscape and a large swimming pool that exudes luxury.
