Charlotte Osei was sacked to cover up NPP’s 2016 elections rigging – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is maintaining that former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei was sacked by the current administration as a cover up for rigging the 2016 polls.

A former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress [NDC] Kofi Adams says his party has Ghana at heart – therefore it defied all means to challenge the 2016 presidential election knowing very well that the NPP won the election through dubious means.

Mr Adams was emphatic that the 2016 presidential election was ‘heavily rigged’ to favour the then opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] led by its flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“We knew something was wrong when results started coming from various regions. Considering the tension that was building on then [in 2016], if we had challenged the results, Ghana wouldn’t have been what it is today,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’.

But the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition NDC Mr Peter Boamah Outokonor has accused President Nana Akufo Addo saying he sacked Mrs Charlotte Osei as Electoral Commission Chairperson to cover up rigging of the 2016 by his party NPP.

Mr Charlotte Osei was removed from the seat as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission on the grounds that she violated the Legislative Instruments that regulate Commission.

Her removal was triggered by unknown persons from the EC’s office who petitioned the president, according to the state prosecutor.

Speaking on Kumasi based Nhyira FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the NDC executive said, “NPP did not win the 2016 election. They took power on the grounds of rigging”.

According to him, after every election results are gazetted and published two weeks later but two years on the line, the 2016 presidential results have not been to gazetted.

“Mrs Charlotte Osei was removed because the NPP realized when she is still in office she will set a committee to investigate and make report which at the long run will disgrace the NPP. Hence the NPP had to sack her”. Mr Otukonor alleged.
