Gomoa Budumburam (C/R), Sept. 7, GNA - Ministerial Development and Relief Programme (MDRP), a charity organisation, on Monday donated assorted food items and dresses valued at GH¢6,000 to about 700 Liberian refugees at the Budumburam Camp in the Central Region. The organisation has since its establishment in 2000 been supporting the refugees financially to establish their own businesses as well as cater for their educational and health needs. Mr George Bannerman, founder of MDRP, addressing the refugees, bemoaned the deplorable sanitary conditions under which the refugees lived. "Some of the refugees live without clean water while some are forced to defecate in plastic bags which are scattered everywhere at the camp. Majority of them struggle to eat and provide for their children," he said. Mr Bannerman expressed dissatisfaction with the high rate of prostitution going on at the Camp due to poverty and urged other organisations to come to their aid. He also urged the refugees to support government's activities, be law abiding and keep their environment neat. Madam Francaise Daye, who spoke on behalf of the women in the Camp, expressed her gratitude to MDRP for the assistance and called for the establishment of a health centre at the camp. 7 Sept. 10
