Chainsaw operator murdered

The Police in the Brong Ahafo Region are on the heels of one Rufai Yakubu, 25, for allegedly murdering a chainsaw operator, Kweku Kyere alias Bodam in the Korase Forest in the Berekum Municipality in January, this year.

According to police investigation, on 1st January this year, Rufai Yakubu and his accomplice Kwabena Kuma alias Kobby, 26, now in police custody, approached Kweku Kyere, a chainsaw operator and asked him to cut their timber in Koraso Forest in the Berekum Municipality for them.

The three of them went into the forest on the motorbike of the deceased.

The brother of the deceased reported the matter to the police on October 26 after Kweku Kyere went missing since January 1.

He told DAILY GUIDE that the two people led his elder brother to the Korase Forest.

The police suspected foul play and commenced investigation into the case, which led to the arrest of Kwabea Kuma at Chiraa, a town in the Sunyani West Municipality.

Upon interrogation, Kwabena confirmed to the police that Rufai shot and killed Kyere in the forest without provocation after which they bolted with his motorbike.

He led the police investigation team to the scene of crime and recovered Kyere’s decomposed body.

According to the BA Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Christopher Tawiah, the police are working hard to trace the whereabouts of the principal suspect and the motorbike, which the police said had no registration number.

Asked why the family took so long to report the matter to the police, the PRO said they delayed because of the nature of the work of Kyere, who was 35 years old.

He appealed to people to take their personal security seriously and be circumspect in their actions.

The police said Rufai bolted immediately after committing the crime.
